This video will tell you everything you need to know when choosing your course.
What types of courses are available? What should I consider? How can courses be different from each other?
All these questions will be answered in this video and more.
Let our students tell you how they chose their courses, what was important to them, how they made their final decisions and the advice they have for students who are still undecided.
Remember you can still submit your questions to our students through the "Ask a Student" form below.
The best place to find information on a course is the course page on the university website. You'll be able to find information on the focus of the course, a breakdown of the modules taught, how the course is assessed and much more.
You can also use UCAS to find which universities offer the courses you are interested in, as well as a brief description of what the course is about.
Comparison sites are also a great tool to compare courses within the same university, or different universities. You just have to select the 2 (or more) courses you are interested in, and let the comparison site give you more information on their differences and similarities.
Websites you can use are:
Discover Uni - https://discoveruni.gov.uk/course-comparison/
WhatUni? - https://www.whatuni.com/
University Compare - https://universitycompare.com/
If course rankings are important to you, here are some good websites to use. Different rankings will take different elements into consideration, so we recommend you learn how the ranking is set, and filter the ranking tables to show what is important to you.
Good League Ranking Tables to use are:
The Guardian - https://www.theguardian.com/education/ng-interactive/2022/sep/24/the-guardian-university-guide-2023-the-rankings
Times Higher Education - https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/best-universities/best-universities-uk
Complete University Guide - https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings
If you are still unsure about what kind of course to study, why not take a Degree Quiz that can tell you which degrees can match you best.
You could also take a personality test, that could tell you which careers people with your personality traits usually go to or succeed at.
These results do not determine which career you should go for, but it might help you point you into the right direction.
This week, we have a questionnaire with questions regarding your course choices and what was important to you. This will help us get a better idea of what students consider a priority when it comes to choosing their courses.
This Questionnaire will count as a submission to enter the draw for a £10 amazon voucher!
Remember that you can enter more than once by completing different questionnaires and quizzes from different sections of the Hub.
Do your research and take some time to think about what your interests are and what your priorities are when it comes to a course. Try talking to your family, friends and teachers and watching mock lectures on YouTube, as that can give you a better idea of what each course might be like.
Remember that you can still submit your questions to our Student Ambassadors, who will answer them in a video coming online soon!
You can also give us your feedback on the content of this page in the Feedback page. We'd love to hear how you felt about the content and what more we should be adding to the hub.
All the activities are fully accessible via a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
You can use the Menu panel on the left-hand corner of the screen to get around the hub. To access the Menu on a phone, click the three bars in the top-left corner of the screen.
