1. TASK:

Make sure you understand the task instructions, so that you can be confident about writing your assignment yourself.

2. TIME:

Allow plenty of time to write your assignment, so that you can plan, research, read, write and edit step by step; don’t rush to do it at the last minute – that’s when problems occur.

3. NOTES:

Don’t copy sections of source text – make notes on them while reading.

4. RECORD:

Store your references while you research so that you don’t struggle to find them later.

5. CITE:

Make sure you cite all the sources you use for words and ideas in your text.

6. PARAPHRASE:

Use effective paraphrasing techniques (change words, word order, word forms but do not change the meaning from the source).

7. DON’T COPY OTHERS:

Don’t fill up the word count with copied text!

8. DON’T COPY YOUR WORK:

Don’t re-use your previous assignment for a new assignment!

9. WRITE BY YOURSELF:

Don’t use website services that offer to help you write your assignment!

10. CHECK:

Do a final check to ensure that the work you submit is always your own.
