Occupational therapy students will spend a minimum of 1000 hours in practice as stipulated by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. This learning takes place over the three practice education modules. The total includes agreed study hours in practice and some preparation for practice hours.
The learning outcomes for each practice education module require the students to integrate their theoretical knowledge with their practice learning and demonstrate competence relevant to the level of the practice module.
Throughout each of the three practice education modules, the student is expected to develop self-directed learning, reflective practice and self-evaluation skills.
The students are supported to develop and are supervised and assessed by qualified Occupational Therapists. The placements are provided by the NHS, the private, independent and voluntary sector and local authorities. Placements are situated in a wide geographical area including for example, Oxfordshire, London and Berkshire. The programme team work collaboratively with the Practice Education Unit at Oxford Brookes University to ensure appropriate and supported practice experiences. All placement experience is quality assured through approved processes.
