Service Learning Trips

Dominican Republic

Recently the Bronxville School has taken students down to the Dominican Republic to build homes as part of Habitat for Humanity. This has been a powerful experience where students can encounter the devastation of recent hurricanes and the systemic poverty that defines much of the island. On this trip students meet local families, live within the community they are working, and stretch their knowledge of Spanish. Many who have participated considered it one of the highlights of their high school experience.

JBFC - Tanzania

While in Tazania, volunteer at the MainSprings children's orphanage. Build relationships with the girls in the orphanage, teach classes in subjects like math, engage in various construction projects, and spend your free time playing sports and board games with the locals.

Nicaragua

Join a group of high school students on a mission trip to Nicaragua. While you are there, help build one of two houses for local families in need with the assistance of masonry workers. You will be part of the entire process, from laying the foundations to stacking the bricks to putting the roof together. You will also take part in a community game night in which you can bond with the children and families of the village.

Student Global Leadership Institute

Each year, three Bronxville students are selected to participate in the Global Leadership Institute at Punahou in Hawaii. This two week long program engages students in discussions and conversations with students around the world in an issue of social justice. Following the summer program, students selected to participate in SGLI are expected to create a project relating to the year's theme that addresses an issue within their own community. The selection process takes place in January of each year and is limited to rising 12th grade students.
