MEET THE DRIVING CHANGE TEAM

SIBONE ARMAS

I have grown up surrounded by women with different personalities and attitudes. Together, doing small things we achieved changes in my family. Having the opportunity to collaborate in this project is another step for me to promote equality and consciousness in our community.

I am interested in how education can reinforce gender stereotypes and what changes we need to make to the curriculum and to our own teaching practice in order to improve gender equality in school and help bring about social change.

“More women need to stick together” - Jameela Jamil

ANTONELLA CORONEL

I am a fighter, an adventurer and a food lover. I live for the thrill of new experiences, of new places and new things to explore. As educators we have the opportunity to make a change in the life of our future generations through love and creativity. We are all a mosaic made from different materials, shaped into different forms and led by different lights, yet we come together to make something beautiful. The children need to know how perfect and powerful our differences are.

As a Performing Arts and Music teacher I think the best way to show the world who we really are and what we are capable of is the Arts. I am passionate and creative, and a true believer that education is the most powerful tool to drive change and reach for equality.

I’m always interested in women’s opportunities in the world today. There’s a lot of work still to be done and I’m delighted to play even a tiny part in it. I think I’m a realistic person who tries to be optimistic. I also like organising events for charity, awareness or education.

‘The thing women have yet to learn is that nobody gives you power. You just take it.’ - Roseanne Barr (Actress)

POLLY HALL

Throughout my own education and my teaching career, I have seen the importance of strong female role models in the lives of young men and women. I have worked with young women who felt that their voices did not matter and it is exciting to be part of an event which shows that this is not the case.

“The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is the presence of women who are valued.” - Michelle Obama

OLIVER KYLE

I have been more aware of the imbalance between the genders since entering education when I became a teaching assistant many moons ago in Camden, London in Britain. I was fortunate to meet and work with people interested in balancing the scales and since working and living in different parts of the world, I've continued to meet and be inspired by both men and women operating in this field. I'm honoured to be part of something that aims to showcase leading women in Ecuador, as well as inspire and point the way for the next generation.

EMMA NEWMAN

I am inspired by people who get up and change things.

I am inspired by people who understand that simply by getting up things can change.

I am inspired by the way in which a coming together of people can drive change forward.

This conference gives us all the opportunity to find ways to drive that change and I am really excited to be working as part of the committee because ‘to sin by silence when we should protest makes cowards of all of us.’ Ella Wilcox

SIMON NEWMAN

As a literature teacher, I have always been interested in the representation of women in fiction and how this impacts on their opportunities in the real world. It’s great to be a part of an event like this and help to raise awareness of how things can change.

“Somebody has to save our skins.” - Leia Organa

DANIELLE PARKER

My photograph epitomises my spirit: a doer who loves driving change through action, unabashed when her purpose is clear. It was taken three years ago at a festival organised by WoW U!, a women’s group I founded, and it aimed to celebrate women in our local community. This beautiful event could not have happened without the commitment and drive of a team of outstanding women and it was something we felt very proud to have achieved. All the women I have met in my life have inspired me to keep growing and living life to the full, with my eyes and my heart wide open and, with this in mind, I firmly believe that the possibilities are endless.

HEATHER STOLLERY

I have always loved being a part of communities that champion women and as an educator I believe we have an important role in promoting equality and equal opportunities for our young people. I feel privileged and inspired to be a part of this event.

I am a heavy believer in the good that sport/activity can do for the body and mind and like to model this by playing rugby, dancing and practising aerial dance and generally saying yes to any opportunity to learn something new.
