Our IT team has been investigating a number of email delivery issues reported to us, affecting Microsoft Hotmail & Outlook accounts. Microsoft appears to be blocking emails sent from our mail delivery system (Sendgrid).
To help ensure you continue to receive school communications, we would recommend adding a Gmail email address as an additional contact email.
(It is possible to forward emails from this new Gmail to your hotmail address).

The Celebration Assembly for students to receive their Summer 2025 official exam certificates will take place on Thursday 29 January. Invitations have been sent to parents.
We look forward to welcoming parents for refreshments at 12:30pm in Covent Garden, followed by the ceremony at 1pm in the Oryx Theatre. Guests are requested to enter via the bottom car park.

In February, BSM will be welcoming the Education Development Trust (EDT) into school to undertake a rigorous inspection against the British Schools Overseas standards. To support this process, it is very important to them to hear from our parent community. As such, they have sent us a survey for you to complete to help them better understand our school.
If you have more than one child at the school, please respond with your eldest child in mind. If you would like to share feedback about your younger children, you can do so in the comment section at the end. Please complete this survey by 29 January 2026.

We are looking forward to welcoming all Y12 & Y13 parents to our Parent Consultation Day on Monday 9 February 2026. There will be online and in-person appointments available. Booking for appointments will be open on 2 February at 12 midday.

We are delighted to be hosting another Collaborative Music Day, bringing together students from schools across Muscat for a morning of shared music-making through singing, wind band and a small string group. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to collaborate with new peers, build confidence and enjoy the excitement of performing together.
Students will rehearse during the morning, finishing with a short performance in the Oryx Theatre at 12:30pm, which parents are warmly invited to attend. Please complete the sign-up form below if your child would like to attend.
Key information:
For students in Y3 and older
Students should bring a water bottle and food (this is a nut-free event)
The event is free of charge
Please note that school uniform is NOT required for this day, although clothing should be in line with normal local cultural expectations.
Timing:
Drop-off: 8:00am (at the top of school)
Performance in Oryx theatre: 12:30 pm (Parents can be on site from: 12:15 pm, please park at the top of school)
Collection: 1:00pm (from the top of school)

Absences Reminder
Absences Reminder
To secure the best educational outcomes, BSM expects a minimum attendance of 95%, which allows for a maximum of 9 days’ absence per academic year. School data shows that lower attendance is linked to a drop of up to one full grade. While some absences (e.g. family events or non-school sports) may be authorised, they still count towards this total. Once a student reaches 9 days of absence, including medical absences, no further absence requests will be approved.

A reminder that the BSM site is not open for visitors or parents between 7:30am–4:20pm. If you have a meeting, please sign in at the main reception and you will be escorted at all times whilst on site. Thank you for keeping our site safe.

We are currently busy creating props for next year’s production and would greatly appreciate donations of newspapers. Many of our props are large and made using papier mache, so we require a significant amount of newspaper. If you are able to help, please ask your child to bring any newspaper donations to Q102. Thank you for your support.

Our Senior School Book Week will take place in early March 2026, with our special Book Day on Thursday, 5 March. Students are invited to come dressed as one word linked to their year group’s literary genre. This is a fun way for students to explore vocabulary and creativity. In the run up to the exam season, your child may be feeling anxious or more stressed than usual and it can be challenging to navigate how best to support them at home. Active listening and asking the right questions can encourage them to manage their feelings and feel supported in a positive way. Ms Carville will be hosting a parent workshop designed to support you in holding empowering conversations with your child. More details and sign up will follow after half term.

We are beginning to standardise our device strategy around Google Chromebooks to ensure a consistent, reliable and user-friendly learning platform across the school. With this in mind, we kindly ask that any new devices purchased for your child for use in school are Chromebooks. Please see our BYOD document for further information.

Senior School students should be dropped and collected from the following locations (unless they have Primary School siblings or are walking to/from school):
Morning drop off: Bottom of school
End of school day: Top car park*
After activities: Top car park
*If a student is walking home from the Senior School, then they can leave via either the top or the bottom gate, however they must walk all the way home and not be picked up outside of school, as this adds to the congestion.
Please remember, only students in the Senior School who are walking home will be permitted to leave via the bottom car park exit. If your child is being picked up by car and does not have primary school siblings, you will need to use the top car park for pick-up arrangements.

Please can we ask that parents arriving to collect children in the top car park for a 2pm pick-up, do not arrive before 1:45pm. This is to allow our Primary School parents enough time to collect their Y1 and Y2 children safely. Thank you.

Email delivery issues
If you are missing an email from school, please check we have your details correct on our Parent Portal.
We are aware of a few problems with our emails not being received by parents, particularly for Yahoo and Hotmail addresses. To help our emails make it to your inbox we would recommend the following:
Gmail users - emails sometimes go into the 'promotions' tab and occasionally 'spam'. Please check both these folders. To correct, you can just drag and drop one such message to the 'Primary' mailbox and click Yes on the confirmation box for all future messages.
Yahoo & Hotmail users - emails sent to a group (such as a class or year group) are often filtered out as spam by Yahoo and Hotmail. You can avoid this by adding the email addresses below to your contacts. Please also consider providing us with an alternative email address to contact you.

Grab and go Menu
Grab and Go is available to students from Y5 and up. (Grab and Go is not available to FS - Y4 Students at the moment, unless accompanied by a parent after school.) Students must pay for Grab and Go items with a COMO Tuck Shop card (see above).
Daily hot dishes are available at the Oryx Tuck Shop Grab and Go.

PE Uniform - daily practice
On their day of a PE lesson, Senior School students should arrive at school wearing their PE kit. They must bring a school uniform to change into at the end of the lesson (to maintain their personal hygiene) unless the lesson is Period 5, in which case, students can go onto their ECA (if appropriate) or go home. Changing rooms will be locked so all personal belongings are safe; although after school, for ECAs, this may not be the case.
On a day when a student has a PE ECA but not a PE lesson, he/she must come to school in school uniform and change into PE kit, after school, in preparation for their activity.
Deodorant is acceptable, however, no glass containers are allowed and aerosol sprays are not permitted.

Here at BSM we recognise that food allergies are a serious concern. 1 in 50 children have an allergy to nuts with some having severe, life threatening reactions (Anaphylaxis). In order to protect our students with severe nut allergies, we have a no nut policy.
We ask that no nuts or nut products are brought into school. This includes:
Any type of nuts
Pesto
Peanut butter
Nutella
Nougat and Marzipan
Sesame seed rolls (we also have children severely allergic to sesame seeds)
Any food items containing nuts - Chocolates, cereal bars, cakes, biscuits etc.
