Curriculum Overview

Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome to Reception! We are so excited to begin this wonderful journey with the children and look forward to helping them settle into their new classrooms, routines and learning environment. During this first block, we will place a strong emphasis on building positive relationships, helping the children feel safe and secure, and developing their confidence and independence as they become familiar with their new surroundings.

Our learning will be filled with exciting, hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity and a love of learning. Through our English text Peace at Last, children will develop their communication, early literacy and storytelling skills, while Monster Phonics will support them in developing their phonetic awareness. In Mathematics, children will explore number and mathematical concepts through practical, hands-on activities and play.

We are also looking forward to ending the block with a special Pyjama Day, when the children can come to school in their pyjamas and bring along their favourite teddy. We hope this will be a lovely way to celebrate their first few weeks in Reception and the friendships and memories they have already begun to make.
