Curriculum Overview

Dear Parents and Carers,

The first few weeks in Nursery are a very special and important time as your child begins to get to know their new teachers, make friends and explore their new classroom.  Early childhood is a very special time. It is a time of curiosity, wonder and discovery. Children are naturally curious, they want to touch, explore, question, investigate and find out how the world works. Through play, stories, songs, conversations and practical experiences, we will encourage your child to explore and learn at their own pace.

During these first few weeks, children will have opportunities to:

• Get to know their teachers and begin to build trusting relationships.

• Make new friends and learn to play alongside others.

• Explore the classroom and outdoor environment with growing confidence.

• Become familiar with daily routines, such as snack time, tidy-up time and outdoor learning.

• Share their ideas, needs and feelings.

• Develop independence by having a go at simple tasks for themselves.

• Enjoy movement, physical play and hands-on learning.

• Explore, investigate and discover through play.

• Build confidence by trying new things in a safe and supportive environment.
