BYOL Program

Technology is everywhere - entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. The goal of our Bring Your Own Laptop program is to help students develop essential 21st century skills: problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, collaboration & access to lifelong learning. BSC will strive to prepare each and every student for the future, helping them learn to use technology responsibly.

Since 2019, most BSC students have consistently used laptops for their online & offline classes. This website provides students & parents/guardians with an overview of the opportunities and responsibilities associated with this change. The use of technology at BSC is a privilege and not a right. These guidelines are intended to help individual students understand responsible use and adhere to school expectations.

BSC may restrict, suspend, or terminate any student's access to the school's network for not respecting these guidelines. Continued inappropriate use of technology will result in limited/banned computer use, removal from class, disciplinary consequences, receiving a failing grade and/or legal action. The scope of these guidelines covers privately-owned devices, school-owned devices, and 3rd party-related services, including email and social media accounts accessible by students via the BSC network or any mobile network while on campus.

Student Supervision & Privacy Expectations

BSC requires content-filtering and monitoring software to be installed on all student devices. Our intent (and legal responsibility) is to safeguard every student – providing a safe and secure online environment for all. The sole purpose of our BYOL program is to enhance and improve opportunities for teaching and learning. Laptops are to be used for academic purposes only while on campus.

Students should be aware that any application, email, document, or website accessed cannot be considered private. Our safeguarding responsibilities (as a school) require us to detect, limit and report any breach of BSC Appropriate Use guidelines, including accessing pornography, profane/offensive material, cyber-bullying and activity indicating the potential for violence or self-harm.

Any student who intentionally accesses these types of websites or applications may be held accountable in accordance with BSC’s student code of conduct. Students are strongly encouraged to remove non-academic content they wish to remain private from their school laptop.
