We had a fantastic surprise when we went into the big playground to see a massive bin lorry! We were being visited by the recycling crew at Newham Council. They showed us lots of different things the lorry did. It had lots of lights and a horn. It had strong metal arms on the back that lift the bins up and empty them.
After they showed us the lorry we all got to take our turn sitting in the driver's seat. It was so high up we got help to climb the steps!
Our first mini-topic is 'A Better World'. In Reception we will be focusing on litter. Please talk to your child all about litter and how it can be avoided, where to put it, and its effect on our planet. We will be reading a story about an evil villain called Litterbug Doug and a superhero, Michael Recycle, who teaches Litterbug Doug how not to litter. Don't be surprised if there is a lot of Superhero Play over the course of this topic.
