Cortical Visual Impairment

According to the Minnesota DeafBlind child count, as submitted to the National Center on Deafblindness on an annual basis, approximately 30% of Minnesota students with combined hearing and vision loss (deafblindness) have cortical visual impairment (CVI).

The following resources are a small sampling of those available for DeafBlind students who have CVI.

When considering augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) supports, it is important to consider the DeafBlind student's limited or lack of access to auditory input as well as whether enough vision or visual skills is available to use systems such as eye-tracking devices.
