Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered conceptual framework used for promoting healthy social and emotional development and the success of growing children. An integration of data, systems, and practices are used to promote the positive outcomes of everyday learning experiences.
How is the Pyramid Model different from PBIS?
Pyramid Model is the term used to describe the PBIS Framework for Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers
PBIS Multi-Tiered System of Supports is the term used to describe the PBIS Framework for School-Aged Children
How is PBIS different from RTI or Response to Intervention?
PBIS is a comprehensive process and Academy-Wide effort for Brightside Academy when supporting the social and emotional development of children in its care.
RTI is a comprehensive process and Academy-Wide effort for Brightside Academy when delivering support to children who are exhibiting special challenges, have special considerations or who have been enrolled into Brightside Academies with a pre-existing developmental/educational support plan (i.e. BTP, IFSP or IEP).
How does PBIS and RTI work together?
PBIS 3-tiered approach for supporting social and emotional learning should be integrated within the daily routines and activities within your Academy
Tier 1 - Universal Promotion
Tier 2 - Secondary Prevention
*Tier 3 - Tertiary Intervention
When a developmental, academic or behavioral concern arises at *Tier-3 of the PBIS Model for both Infants, Toddlers, Preschool and School-Aged Children, then complete and internal referral to Intervention and Development for consideration of the RTI process
Why is AW-PBIS being implemented?
Brightside Academy’s goal is to promote the social and emotional learning and wellbeing of growing children in its care, including all children identified with unique/complex needs. To ensure this quality and standard is met, staffing and leadership of Brightside Academy will embrace and adhere to a comprehensive systematic approach for promoting positive behavioral supports and interventions within its Academies. It is the expectation that each Academy will develop a personalized annual plan for identifying clear expectations and positive behavioral interventions and supports to administer annually first within their academy and then for each individual classroom.
