Spear Phishing

Unlike Phishing, Spear Phishing is personal to the victim and pretends to be a trustworthy source , such as a friend or family member. An example of this is when a "friend" who is on holiday has crashed their car, and desperately needs a sum of cash transferred into their bank account. This appears to be a real situation, but it could be a spear phisher trying to get your information and your money.

If you want to check the authenticity of the message that you have received.

Contact your friend through a difficult means e.g. email them or send an SMS, or use Facebook Messenger. Do not use the method that the original message was send to you by e.g. do not use email if that was the method of the phisher contacting you.
