Preparing teachers to create meaningful spaces for STEM instruction connected with high-quality, equity-focused biographical children’s literature is a social justice imperative. It provides multilingual learners, students of color, female students, and more with opportunities to access STEM content and careers that are critically important to breaking down educational and socioeconomic barriers.
This website presents activities and data from a STEM teaching program at Bridgewater State University. The program prepared teachers to teach multilingual and diverse learners through STEM content, multilingual education, and multicultural children’s literature. The researchers share findings that demonstrate the read-aloud as a powerful vehicle through which teachers gained a deeper understanding of multilingual learners and teaching in a multilingual and multicultural classroom.
