We are establishing routines in Studysync using skill lessons, such as annotations, text-dependent responses and collaborative conversations. These skills create a foundation of best practices for students so that they can more effectively interact with texts, respond to questions and collaborate with peers. We are currently reading Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Next week, they will complete their first short response writing assignment.

We have had a productive first full week. We got in groups to establish our class norms. Our scavenger hunt of Studysync let us take a look at our first unit, Conflicts and Clashes. We got started with our first skill lesson and learned the 3 purposes for annotations, to ask questions, to track information and respond to the text. We all listened to our first story Rikki-tikki-tavi. This week we will dig deeper into the story with more skill activities. We will continue to practice annotations and introduce new skills. Text-dependent responses, collaborative conversations and characters will be our focus as we re-read Rikki-tikki-tavi this week.

About me
I moved to South Carolina in 2007. I am originally from Michigan, where I graduated from the University of Michigan. I have been a teacher “forever” since 2003. I am a lifelong learner, with my Gifted and Talented teaching endorsement. Taking Masters classes and attending trainings has kept me up to date on the most recent teaching practices. I have taught a variety of grades. Most recently I taught 6th grade before coming to Bridges. I have 2 children. My daughter Jasmine graduated from USC in 2018 and is now a world traveler. She is currently settling down in Canada with her boyfriend. My son Jack will be starting High School this year here at Bridges. He plays baseball and has since he was 4 years old. He also started wrestling last year. This year we got a new puppy, Juno. We've spent our summer training him. Lot's of puppy walks. In my free time I love exploring new places and reading.
This will be my 4th year at Bridges. I taught at River Ridge Academy in Bluffton and worked with Mr. McCulloch. I love the positive culture of Bridges Prep and I look forward to having another great year, Go Bucs!
Reading Resources
This year our main text will be Studysync. Students will read a variety of short stories, information texts and poems. Studysync was new to Bridges curriculum last year. It was written with the updated state standards. It has a writing and reading component as well as novel studies. We will utilize the online and print resources, which will allow you to follow along with your student at home. Please read the family letter to give you a little information on the program. I will be happy to answer any question you may have.
