Lexia Challenge: Requirements 5 Units a Week
This year, your reader has be using Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®, a computer-based program that tailors instruction to their specific needs. The activities in PowerUp support and build on our English language arts classroom curriculum, focusing on three areas essential to becoming a proficient reader: word study, grammar, and comprehension.
Here’s how PowerUp works:
• Your reader begins PowerUp at a starting point that fits their specific needs and works in online activities throughout the week.
• Online activities include direct instruction and feedback as your reader learns new skills.
• Progress and performance in the program is reported so teachers can provide help when needed.

About me
I moved to South Carolina in 2007. I am originally from Michigan, where I graduated from the University of Michigan. I have been a teacher “forever” since 2003. I am a lifelong learner, with my Gifted and Talented teaching endorsement. Taking Masters classes and attending trainings has kept me up to date on the most recent teaching practices. I have taught a variety of grades. Most recently I taught 6th grade before coming to Bridges. I have 2 children. My daughter Jasmine graduated from USC in 2018 and is now a world traveler. She is currently settling down in Canada with her boyfriend. My son Jack will be starting High School this year here at Bridges. He plays baseball and has since he was 4 years old. He also started wrestling last year. This year we got a new puppy, Juno. We've spent our summer training him. Lot's of puppy walks. In my free time I love exploring new places and reading.
This will be my 4th year at Bridges. I taught at River Ridge Academy in Bluffton and worked with Mr. McCulloch. I love the positive culture of Bridges Prep and I look forward to having another great year, Go Bucs!
Reading Resources
This year our main text will be Studysync. Students will read a variety of short stories, information texts and poems. Studysync was new to Bridges curriculum last year. It was written with the updated state standards. It has a writing and reading component as well as novel studies. We will utilize the online and print resources, which will allow you to follow along with your student at home. Please read the family letter to give you a little information on the program. I will be happy to answer any question you may have.
*Students will not need a password and will login through Clever/McGraw Hill when they get their devices.
