The classification of esports entirely depends on the country. In the United Kingdom esports is not considered a sport, it is classified as a game. Whereas different countries such as the US, Finland, and Germany all classify esports as a sport due to fitting the majority of the standards needed to be a sport. Esports is so big in countries like South Korea, the players have their mandatory military time delayed the same way they would for a celebrity. The governing body for esports in Korea is KeSPA they are responsible for major events such as 'Worlds' a famous League of Legends tournament, which amasses millions of viewers each year. The national governing body for the US is USeF which is short for The United States Esports Federation. These are just to name a few, each country has it's own individual esports federation which is responsible for esports in their country. The largest country for esports is China by far. It is often referred to as the powerhouse of gaming. However, the Chinese government doesn't support gaming and esports as much as other countries like Korea and the US. China imposed a gaming ban in 2021 which is going to have a drastic impact on the Chinese esports industry which will affect esports worldwide.
