Boys and Girls Ages 10-16

This beginner to intermediate camp will focus on popular music of all commercial styles: rock, pop, country, hip-hop, and will support improvisation and creativity. It will offer practical, audio, and performance opportunities with an emphasis on the current music scene. Members will explore and gain an understanding of the audio/visual equipment used by rock bands for performance and recording. Further instruction will be given in band etiquette, instrument role, microphone technique, balance, blend, mixing, lead singing, dynamics, and showmanship. Students will participate in a week-long camp/rehearsal with a final performance at week’s end. Instruments will be provided but feel free to bring your own!

  • 9:00 am-12:00 pm (please check in by 8:45 am on the first day, and pick up no later than 12:30 pm daily)

Camp Director

Scott McGill

West Coast born and raised, Scott McGill holds a diploma in pop voice and jazz from Capilano University in Vancouver and is currently a full-time student at Vancouver Island University pursuing his Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Guitar. Scott gained industry attention with the release of two notable independent albums nominated for esteemed music awards: in 1997, the album, First Time won runner-up at the YTV Youth Achievement Awards. In 2000, Check the Hype was nominated Best New Indie Album at the influential West Coast Music Awards. In 2001, Scott was selected for a part in the Global Television reality show, Pop Stars: Boy Meets Girl, filmed in Toronto. Scott has been and is still part of a variety of musical acts and can be found playing all over Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. He also composes and records his own solo projects and works as a studio musician. He has opened for bands and artists such as Nickleback, Keith Urban, and Wide Mouth Mason and describes his work as “popfolksoul”. Currently, Scott is on faculty and teaches music at Brentwood College School as well as Minstrels Conservatory of Music in Cobble Hill. Scott’s teaching philosophy encourages students to find their own voice through music.
