Mrs. Codorniz was born and raised in Ohio. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She has been teaching in Washington since 2004. She has earned her National Boards Certification, as well as a Master in Education from Western Governor's University. Mrs. Codorniz loves rainy weather, coffee, and sports. Her favorite teams include the Cleveland Browns, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ms. Shelton, Literacy Specialist at West Hills, has taught school for so many years that she now has the privilege and joy of teaching some of the children of her former students.  Her passion for teaching has never wavered and she is particularly enthusiastic about teaching children to read.  Besides teaching, Ms. Shelton loves spending time with her college-age daughter and her two dogs. She also has a thirty-year-old box turtle that doesn’t say much. 

 

Math Specialist

Mrs. Elm,  Math Specialist at West Hills STEM Academy. She was born and raised on the beautiful island of Guam. She moved to Washington in 1998 to advance her educational training. 

Mrs. Elm has taught many years in the elementary level. She has a Bachelor of Elementary Education and a Masters in Curriculum Instruction with emphasis in Reading and Parental Involvement. She taught  2nd, 3rd and 4th grade at Armin Jahr Elementary School. In 2010, Mrs. Elm was then hired as an Instructional Coach, she worked mostly with administration and staff with Best Instructional Practices in the classroom. She was also the district DoDEA STEM coordinator who organized and coordinated Math Bast STEM and Summer STEM Camp. 

Mrs. Elm continues her journey here at West Hills STEM to teach and implement mathematical and STEM skills in the classroom!

Special Education Teacher

Mrs. McConnell grew up on the East coast before moving to Washington in 2010 and has fallen in love with the rainy climate. She enjoys spending time exploring Western Washington, camping, reading, and cooking. She attended Vanderbilt University and earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Special Education and Educational Studies. In 2017, she graduated with a Master of Arts in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Grand Canyon University. She has been an educator since 2007. 

Valerie Custodio 

Speech-Language Pathologist

Valerie Custodio is  Speech-Language Pathologist at West Hills STEM Academy.  She graduated from the University of Oregon and has been working as an SLP since 2000.  As a speech therapist she has the privilege to work with students from preschool up to the 8th grade.  She works with students in areas such as articulation, expressive language, and receptive language.     

Multilanguage Learner Specialist

Desiree Hall, Multilingual Language Specialist, West Hills STEM Academy, BA in Elementary (K-8), Endorsed English a Second Language (K-12) from Washington State University and a MA in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University, National Board Certified in Early Childhood Generalist (2010). She has taught in Bremerton School District since 1999 and has been in the K-5 Classroom, has been an Instructional Coach, and is currently the MLL Specialist. 

Laura Hornburg, SSP, NCSP

School Psychologist

Laura Hornburg is the School Psychologist at West Hills STEM Academy. She is originally from Texas and received her Specialists in School Psychology degree from Sam Houston State University in 2018. She completed her school psychology internship with Bremerton School District in 2017-2018 where she fell in love with Washington and Bremerton. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist who has the privilege of working with students preschool to 8th grade. She helps to identify and support students with needs in the areas of academics, social/emotional/behavioral, life skills, and cognitive skills. 

Megan Milyard,

Megan was born and raised on a farm in Port Orchard, WA. She graduated from South Kitsap High School and has a Bachelor in Science Occupational Therapy from University of Puget Sound.  Her obtained her post graduate Doctorate in Occupational Therapy in 2018, Evidence in Motion from University of Kentucky.  Megan is: Certified Neuroscience Specialist

Certified Autism Specialist 

Certified Concussion and Vestibular Specialist 

She loves gardening, fishing, crafting, being outdoors, and cooking. 

She lives with her husband, Eric, and has 3 adult children, dogs, and cats!
