coupon sort

  • collect coupons from the newspaper or when you go into a store

  • cut out the different coupons and help your child sort them into categories

  • your categories can be whatever you choose - food/cleaning supplies/clothes; things that are red/green/yellow; refrigerator/bathroom/toys; etc

Descriptions

  • get two objects that have similar uses but look different (ie: coffee mug and glass or a shoe and a sandal)

  • put the objects next to each other and ask your child to describe one object - you can write down their observations! Repeat with the other object

  • ask what is similar or the same about the two objects (ie: we can drink out of both, or they both go on feet)

  • ask what is different about the two objects (ie: color, size, or shape)

Sequence Events

  • sequencing worksheets or your own drawings/pictures

  • if making your own, draw steps of different events onto individual index cards or pieces of paper - these steps might be normal routines that you do (ie: brush teeth, put on pjs, read a book, ge to sleep) or of something familiar (ie: plant a seed, water, wait, see a sprout)

  • help your child to put the events in order and talk about what happens first, next, and last
