*Period 0 (Homeroom)

Homeroom is a 20- minute- class before 1st period every day except for Wednesday. I use the time to check in with students, share necessary information from school and to build relationships. We also use the Character Strong curriculum during this time.
*Period 1 (ELL Beginners)

This class is for new students in the USA/beginners in the English language. Focuses are social languages, vocabulary, sight words, fundamental phonics, phrases and grammars that students would use in their everyday life.

6th grade ELL math with an emphasis of language support and scaffolding for grade level content.
*Period 4 (ELL Reading)

Focuses are to build background knowledge/vocabulary across subjects through reading fiction and non-fiction books in various topics. Phonics instruction is delivered as well.
*Period 5 (ELL Advanced)

Focuses are academic language, various text structures, organizations for reading and writing. Students practice reading comprehension, writing paragraphs and essays. Students in this class generally have social language in English.

Maintain a positive attitude and be respectful to all students and teachers.
Grading:
The class is graded with the district letter-grading scale.
A = 100%-90%
B = 89%-80%
C = 79%-70%
D = 69%-60%
F = Below 60%
The breakdown of the whole grade:
50% - Assignments (practice work, projects, classwork, some quizzes)
20% - Participation/effort (All students are frontloaded 100% at the beginning of each semester.)
20% - Unit quizzes, tests
10% - Skills for success (collaboration, communication, organization, technology)
