Hi, I'm Mr. Divis. I have been teaching since 2003, joining BHS in 2017. With a B.S. in Secondary Social Studies Education from Miami University (2003), and a M.A. in History from American Public University (2017), I have a sincere interest in learning and teaching about the world.
Prior to coming to BHS, I taught in Vermont for 13 years, where I served as the Social Studies Department Coordinator and taught World Cultures, World History, AP European History, and Senior Seminar. I also taught courses online through the Vermont Virtual Learning Collaborative and at the Community College of Vermont, as well as leading students to China in the summers through the University of Vermont.
I have presented at various conferences at the state, national, and international level, including the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) and the National Council for History Education (NCHE), as well as conferences and workshops in South Africa and Singapore.
Throughout my career, I have been honored to receive various honors and awards, including being selected as the 2010 Vermont Teacher of the Year. I have also been recognized as a Fulbright Distinguished Teacher, which sent me to South Africa during the 2011-2012 school year, and in 2018 I was invited to Singapore as an Outstanding Educator-in-Residence. I have also received honors and recognition from the University of Vermont, Saint Michael's College, Keene State College, and Stanford University. I was also featured in the book Teacher Top 5: Nationally Recognized Teachers Share Their Top 5 Strategies for Successful Teaching. In 2020, I became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT).
At BHS, I teach AP World History and World History.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading, hiking, traveling, and listening to music.
In 2010, the Pearson Foundation hosted a workshop for teachers where we created videos entitled "Why I Teach."
