Dear Second Grade Families,
We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year, and I’m excited to share what your children have been learning in Chinese class!
Numbers 1-20+ in Character form:
The students have been practicing recognizing and writing the Chinese characters for numbers 1 to 20+. They’ve made great progress in understanding both the form and meaning of each character.
Conversation and Self-Introductions:
Students have been learning to understand questions on one's nationality, school, grades, friends, such as, "What's your nationality?" "What school do you go to?" "What grade are you in?" "Do you like friends or not?", and to respond appropriately. They are able to do a self introduce by saying a greeting, their name, age, nationality, school, grade level, and express their liking of friends.
Reading and Writing Practice:
In addition to understanding and speaking skill training, we put good energy to work on recognizing character words, as well as learning to write key vocabulary character words by following the stroke order.
Book Project:
Students are wrapping up their book "Me". It is a project filled with their proud learning. The book will go home next week.
Assessments:
Students learning is assessed in an ongoing way for in-house documentation, and for us to modify our instruction to best meet our students needs.
Moon Festival:
In celebration of the Moon Festival (中秋节 – Zhōngqiū Jié), the students learned the legend stories about this important Chinese holiday and how Chinese people celebrate it.
New Action Rhyme and Song:
"Good Friends" "Looking for Friends"
I’m so proud of the effort and enthusiasm our children have shown in class. Additionally, A big thank you to all the families who attended Curriculum Night, the Family Forum, and Parent-Teacher Conferences. Your involvement and support make a huge difference, and it was wonderful to connect with you!
Warm regards,
Liu Laoshi
