Breckinridge County Schools, BRAVE Academy is a distance learning option for those students in grades 6-12.
Enrolling in the BRAVE Academy will ensure your child experiences a structured online learning curriculum. Our district has partnered with Imagine Learning; a leading provider of online learning that strives to provide opportunity and access to high-quality education using technology. You and your child will have identified support and contact with the Breckinridge County Digital Learning Coordinator and various teachers throughout the district during your online learning experience. Students will have numerous opportunities for acceleration and enrichment within the BRAVE Academy.
We are committed to ensuring that families opting for online instruction will stay connected with their enrolled schools! Students attending the BRAVE Academy will be allowed and encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities (Basketball, Archery, Academic Team, Clubs, etc…) in the school district.
Purpose: The BRAVE Academy is designed to reach students who have traditionally homeschooled, to provide curriculum to students who are interested in homeschooling, or to provide an alternate means of receiving instruction by a performance based alternative. This program requires self-discipline for students. Parents/guardians of enrolled students must commit to monitoring the progress of their child in the program.
Requirements: Students wishing to enroll in the BRAVE Academy are required to attend an orientation session (typically held during Open House) with their parent/guardian for an introduction to the program. At the orientation, prospective students will learn about the online program (Edgenuity) and expectations for enrollment. Students enrolled in the BRAVE Academy must make satisfactory progress and follow all expectations. In addition, students will be required to participate in all testing required by the state and any other testing measures that are required by the school. Students are also required to maintain up to date contact information with the school and to respond to all contacts made by the school within 24 hours. Middle and High School students must enroll in the BRAVE Academy prior to the start of a new academic semester (Fall and Spring) or receive approval for extenuating circumstances. In addition, a High School student must have earned a minimum of 4 credit hours per year of high school completion (4 core content credits - Freshman; 8 core content credits - Sophomore; 12 core content credits - Junior; 16 core content credits - Senior).
Students’ success in the BRAVE Academy is dependent on both the student and parent’s investment in this innovative environment. Parent and student responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Families are expected to provide access to reliable home internet and technology devices to support online learning for student(s).
Attend an in-person BRAVE Academy admission and orientation meeting.
Monitor student progress and contact the Digital Learning Coordinator with any concerns.
Ensure daily participation in classes and adherence to the daily class schedule. Students that do not meet daily progress and completion of assigned performance tasks for the day/week, will be counted absent.
Students/families enrolled in the BRAVE Academy shall follow and be held accountable to all attendance expectations, regulations, and laws.
Attending scheduled instructional activities, intervention sessions, and mandated assessment administrations on-campus throughout the school year.
Self-directed digital learning takes a lot of dedication, organization, and perseverance from all of those involved. As a district, we are here to help your child succeed every step of the way.
