WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ONLINE STUDENTS?
It takes a lot of dedication, motivation, and determination for students to succeed on an online platform. Students will be provided with rigorous online texts and curriculum aligned to our district's pacing guide to propel them forward on their virtual journey. In addition, there are some strategies that can help your child succeed.
There are some expectations about:
-- how much time you spend on each class,
-- attending virtual seminars, and
-- contacting the digital learning coordinator.
Going to School Online
As with any typical school, BRAVE Academy is made up of many parts, with the majority of them being accessible through the internet. BRAVE Academy students will use the internet to access their main online learning program called Edgenuity.
The Edgenuity learning management system is the core of the BRAVE Academy platform—this is where and how you'll "come to school" each day. To use Edgenuity, you need to be connected to the internet. You will also need a username and password. This username and password will be shared with families at the start of enrollment.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use Policy while participating in BRAVE Academy.
Be available, as directed, on school days, to participate in online learning activities.
Participate each school day in every enrolled class.
Attend meetings at school, if required (by appointment, adhering to social distancing guidelines).
Participate in all required district and state testing.
Seek help from the digital learning coordinator, as needed.
Complete and submit all coursework on time.
Communicate with your teacher and peers in a respectful manner.
Ensure that you have access to online courses during school hours, and can complete assignments after school hours.
Acknowledge that the school district has access to your schoolwork and comments posted within the online courses.
PARENT EXPECTATIONS:
Ensure that your child has the necessary equipment and internet access to participate in BRAVE Academy.
Provide your student with a safe and appropriate place to work while at home.
Ensure that your student has sufficient time in his/her schedule to work each day on the scheduled courses.
Become familiar with Edgenuity parent reports as well as progress reports, and ask your child to show you his/her coursework and progress.
Encourage your child to seek help from the Digital Learning Coordinator as needed.
Ensure that all tests and work is completed by your child without the aid of others.
Be aware of all deadlines.
Communicate academic concerns with Digital Learning Coordinator as necessary.
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS:
Students and parents can expect...
The district will develop and explain the BRAVE Academy process and expectations so that students and parents can make informed decisions when choosing to participate in online learning.
Teachers will be available during scheduled hours (as communicated by the DLC) to provide academic assistance, when needed.
If the student has an active 504 Plan or IEP, the district will help determine if the accommodations and support can be delivered virtually or if they will have to be modified.
When students select the option for virtual school, they may choose to come back to in-person classes at the specified transition points.
Students that choose virtual school may participate in in-person extracurricular programs/activities.
Students and parents fully acknowledge that success is largely dependent upon the work and effort put forth by the student. Students who are not successful in the online learning platform may have to attend in-person classes.
Enrollment in BRAVE Academy indicates I have read, understand, acknowledge, and agree to abide by all expectations and policies outlined here.
