About the Human first framework

The Breakthrough National Office launched the Human First Framework (HFF) in 2022 after seeing the need to prioritize our Breakthrough community's holistic well-being in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The HFF is a culmination of our research on the merits and critiques of holistic learning, our own reckoning with how we have previously approached teaching and learning, and most of all, our belief that our community's aspirations and assets should be central to our work.

Human First Framework Resources

Over the course of this three year project, the Breakthrough National Office will share key resources to integrate the values of the Human First Framework into our work with students, Teaching Fellows, and Instructional Coaches.

Holistic learning that expands educational opportunity is most meaningful when it is integrated into systems. While the Breakthrough National Office will use the Human First Framework to guide future student, Teaching Fellow, and Instructional Coach initiatives, we hope that our greater Breakthrough community also lives out the values of the Human First Framework throughout and beyond Breakthrough!
