Students find themselves in many situations throughout the day where their stress response kicks in. When this happens, they are unable to learn and process new information. Sometimes, this happens with students who are perfectionists as they feel the pressure to do everything "just right". It could be that students are disengaged, don't feel that they can learn or don't see a purpose to their learning or they are defensive.
When these emotions take over, students can not pay attention and learn what is being presented to them, leaving them confused and misunderstanding.
