Each FFA member is required to have an Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). This is an outside-of-school project overseen by your FFA advisor. You will be able to record all of your project activities online at theAET.com for your future records and award applications.
Foundational: This type of project is largely based on research. Each member will complete a Foundational SAE Project through their Principles of Agriculture class by researching an agricultural career path outside of class.
Placement: This type of project involves being placed with a mentor or at a job of your choosing, as long as it has to do with agriculture. Placement SAEs can be paid or unpaid. Some examples include working at the local feed store, becoming a waiter/waitress, or shadowing a veterinarian or welder in the area.
Entrepreneurship: This type of project involves a financial investment and creating a product or service to sell. The most common types of entrepreneurship projects are raising animals for market or breeding purposes (cattle, sheep, goats, swine, rabbits, poultry, etc.). However, there are many other options, including building Ag mechanics projects, creating a lawn care business, cutting and selling firewood, training service animals, and many more.
Research: This type of project involves choosing an agricultural subject and conducting a research experiment. This can range from the effect of a certain insect on local plants to the researching the impact of technology on local farms and ranches.
If a student has an eligible project that they would like to show at a BISD approved livestock show, they must register with an FFA advisor at the annual entry meeting. At the meeting, a parent will need to be present to sign paperwork, all animal or project information must be presented (ear tag numbers, tattoo numbers, registration papers, etc.), FFA dues must be paid in full, and all entry fees must be paid in full before exiting the meeting. If any of the items above are incomplete, the project will not be entered. Please check the Brazosport FFA Google Calendar for the date of this meeting each year.
We currently do not have an online payment option for entry fees. Cash or checks can be turned in to an FFA Advisor or to Mrs. Johnson at the Brazosport HS front office.
