Teaching members the technical skills they need to know to run an agricultural operation, including: basic AC/DC electricity, plumbing, small engine maintenence, metal working, welding, wood working, repair, etc.
Members can compete in several different contests, build or restore different types of projects, and network with local business and industry through community service opportunities and internships.
Members troubleshoot, repair and drive a tractor; identify and grade tractor and implement components; and take a written exam over mechanical, electrical and power systems theory.
Members perform three individual hands-on skills; solve a team problem with multiple hands-on and math skills; and take a written exam over mechanical, electrical and power systems theory.
Members read blueprints to recreate parts or estimate a job; use cutting and welding processes; and take a written exam over welding theory and safety.
Members build and exhibit projects at livestock shows, including San Antonio, Houston and Brazoria County. Projects may be built for the FFA member themselves, their family, community members, local businesses, school programs or staff, anyone really! FFA members can also restore and show tractors at livestock shows. During a member's senior year, they can take a course called Practicum in Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources with a specialty in Ag Mechanics. These members go off-site and participate in a full internship at a local agricultural or industrial company to gain experience in the working world beyond the normal teenaged starter job and to build connections with potential employers. All project requests will be considered; however, you will be contacted whether or not your project is accepted based on the current number of projects in our shop and feasability of the project. If you are looking for a CNC metal sign, fire pit, equipment restoration and maintenence, or other custom project, please contact Ms. Mulder at makenzy.mulder@brazosportisd.net.
