Volunteer Deputy Registrars

Become a Brazos County
volunteer deputy registrar

Training to become a volunteer deputy registrar (VDR) can be taken in-person or online.

(Note: The terms volunteer deputy registrar (VDR) and deputy voter registrar (DVR) are used interchangeably.

In-person in Brazos County

Voter registration training is typically scheduled the third Tuesday of the month. To register for one of the Brazos County  monthly in-person training sessions, call (979-361-5773) by close of business the Monday before the training, so that enough training materials can be prepared.

Some information about the training is at BrazosVotes.

Note:  The training occurs at the Elections Administration office, located at 300 E Wm Joel Bryan Pkwy, Bryan.

Online

Brazos County does not offer online training, but will accept online training given by Travis County.

Travis County online VDR Training

Using the Travis County training to become certified in Brazos County

After taking the online training to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar in Travis County (see steps 1 through 3 above), you can be approved in Brazos County without having to re-take the training.

Speak with Kathy Schuetze (979-361-5773) in the Brazos County Elections Administration office, 300 E William J Bryan Pkwy, Suite 100, Bryan, TX 77803, to get approved in Brazos County.  An appointment is not required but if you want you can call her first at 979-361-5773 to make sure she will be available to meet with you.

Certification is valid from the time you get certified until December 31 of even-numbered years; that is, it expires December 31 after each Presidential or mid-term November election.

Texas Secretary of State training slides

The Texas Secretary of State website has a DVR/VDR training slide presentation online; however, the SoS Office does not offer online training for certification as a VDR.

Opportunities for VDRs

Join the Facebook group: Brazos Volunteer Deputy Registrars to learn of events and opportunities at which you can register voters; for example, BCDP has a voter registration table at First Fridays in Downtown Bryan. Voter registration opportunities are sometimes posted on Democratic Activists of the Brazos Valley. With permission from event coordinators, VDRs can set up a table at public events.
