Steps 

• 1. Work as a class to create broad requirements for the Sustainable Homes.

  2. Work in small groups to identify Design Specifications for these requirements.

  3. Compare the group Design Specifications to the needs of your user (Persona) and create your own Design Specifications in your Workbook.

  4. Homework: Present the Design Specifications to an adult "user". Get feedback and improve. 

Quick Brainstorm/Sketch Steps 

• 1. Brainstorm your house exterior  and roofs using the Roof handout from Architecture book p15

  2. Brainstorm Site Plan using the Site plan handout p27

  3. Share with the peer to get some quick feedback 

Steps 

1. Review your brainstorm handouts from the previous lesson

2. Quickly design 2 possible house layouts in cardboard. Use recycled cardboard and glue guns. 

3. Remember it would be easier for you if your house layouts were constrained to a single-floor 

   1. Consider the arrangement of structural elements (doors/walls/windows/etc)

   2. Consider the arrangement of the sustainable systems

   3. Draw your site layout like we practiced

   4. Consider orientation of the house (North-South-East-West)

4. Give and Receive feedback based on the TAG Feedback Routine

5. Upload photos of your sketches and feedback to your Workbook

Steps 

1. Based on feedback and analysis decide on the best idea 

2. Make a final cardboard prototype of your idea. 

3. Experiment with your prototype (try to move things around) and add anything that needs to be added (you can print out external spaces, and sustainable systems)

4. Justify why this house is the best idea based on your design specifications (In annotations - look at the website example)

Steps 

1. On paper, sketch a floorplan (interior) of your house. 

2. Pay attention to the dimensions, and location of windows and doors.

3. Plan essential furniture and locations (can be edited in C3)

1. Take screenshots of any parts of your Floorplanner model which will be used to create your physical model. Consider printing:

   1. Floorplan Layout (required)

   2. Walls and surfaces

   3. Representations of the Systems

2. Screenshots must be sized/scaled appropriately 

   1. Include measurements where necessary

3. Homework: Finalize your Workbook Criteria B for submission
