Taking part in a science fair is a great way to provoke curiosity, explore interests, and motivate continued study in science. We hope that through this process, you will recognize that the work of scientists is a creative endeavor and one that affects the world you live in.
Check out the amazing 2024 BHA JS Science Fair!
Following feedback from participants and parents, we are working to implement the following changes:
You said that you wanted students to be able to share their projects more widely.
Projects will be displayed from Wednesday January 21 to Friday January 23.
You said that you wanted students to be able to participate in the judging.
There will be an opportunity for students to vote for a 'Student Choice Award.'
You said that you wanted all students to receive actionable feedback.
All projects will receive qualitative feedback in the form of '2 Stars and a Wish.'
You said you wanted more clarity on the judging criteria.
The old judging criteria have been removed from the website, and a simplified judging criteria has been added below.
You said you wanted more teacher support for projects.
Instead of open “drop-in” times, there will be specific consultation times for each grade level or class.

Problem/Question
Meeting: I can write a clear science question or design problem that can be studied, tested, or improved.
Prediction/Goal
Meeting: I can explain what I expect to find out (in an observation), what I think will happen (in an experiment), or what I want my design to achieve (in an innovation), and explain why using science ideas.
Variables, Observations, or Design Features
Meeting: I can explain what I will focus on (the key factors or features), what I will record or measure, and how I will collect or test the information.
Plan/Design
Meeting: I can create a plan that makes sense, is safe, and uses the right tools or materials to answer my question, study my idea, or test my design.
Processing & Evaluating (Student participants have received this intro)
Data/Results Presentation
Meeting: I can show my results in a clear way (such as notes, sketches, tables, charts, or graphs).
Interpretation
Meeting: I can describe what my results mean, using science ideas.
Prediction/Goal Check
Meeting: I can explain if my prediction, expectation, or design goal matched the results, and why.
Method/Approach Check
Meeting: I can explain how well my approach (experiment, observation, or design process) worked.
Improvements/Extensions
Meeting: I can suggest changes, new questions, or new design ideas that would make my project better.
