Branksome Hall Asia Grade 9 students visited the University of Waterloo and participated in a Centre for Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) Math workshop. Students were given Mathematical challenges similar to the University of Waterloo Mathematics competitions that our students can participate in annually. Professor Judith Koeller also spoke to students about real life application of Mathematics and what it is like to study as an undergraduate student in Mathematics.

Following the Math workshop students were able to choose one of four Faculty tours in Mathematics, Science, Engineering or Applied Health Science. Each faculty tour was guided by a student currently studying in this field as an undergraduate. Grade 9 students were taken into different classrooms and buildings so that they could better understand what the day in the life of a student looks like.

The University of Waterloo is home to Professor Donna Strickland the 2018 Nobel Prize winner in Physics. "She became only the third woman (and the only one currently living) to win the Nobel Prize in Physics it was the beginning of a long career of quietly changing peoples’ perceptions about the role and capabilities of women in science and engineering," (Globe and Mail)
