Learning how to code is linked to improved problem solving and analytical reasoning. In Software Design, students will design and develop code for microcontroller hardware using inputs and outputs. Students will also design and develop mobile applications for touchscreen devices. Emphasis will be on the design of a user interface and code using loops, logic, variables, and functions. All levels of coding experience are appropriate for this course.

Stay on task
Use tools and materials appropriately and safely
Fully participate in all activities
Respect yourself, others, and the equipment
Attendance in the classroom is very important. Due to the nature of this class, it is very difficult to make up work while at home. If you fall behind or need additional time on a project, please talk to me so arrangements can be made. Communication is KEY! I cannot help with something that I do not know about.
You will notice that this class is structured in an unusual and exciting way. We are proud of the investment from our community and school district, and we want to keep the supplies in good repair. Everyone should take responsibility to protect the equipment and help with the daily room maintenance. Remember, you are working with expensive equipment, so everyone must be careful.
You are expected to document all of your thinking, classwork, design ideas where indicated.
You will be assessed on your classwork, projects, and presentations (100% of the final grade).
Since this course is one of exploration with a hands-on approach, you will have the opportunity to work with many different types of materials and tools to meet the course requirements. Some of these tools may be used for demonstration purposes only by the instructor or by you for preparing project materials. The tools available in our workshop include, but are not limited to, the following items:
Computers
Chromebooks
Tablets
Microprocessors
Hand Tools
Sewing Machines
Irons
Hot Glue Guns
Wood burning pens
Before any student is allowed to use the tools, a lesson describing the proper and safe use of that tool will be presented. Included in the lesson will be a demonstration of the proper operating procedure. In addition, safe working practices and proper conduct in a work setting will be clearly defined. Student safety is of the utmost importance.
