I grew up on the west side of the state and participated in dance, basketball, softball, drama, band, a math and science center, and school leadership while in school. After high school graduation, I attended Central Michigan University, where I majored in general science and minored in language arts, with an emphasis in elementary education. My favorite course was a Nature Study at Beaver Island for an intense 3 weeks of learning. Then in 2002, I graduated from Marygrove College with a Masters in the Art of Teaching degree. This is my 26th year teaching at Brandon Schools, and I do my best to stay up-to-date on best practices for teaching, new technologies, and classroom management techniques.
I love to watch football, basketball, and baseball, try new crafts, keep up with all things Disney, read almost anything (No mysteries, though! I don’t like them at all!), watch my favorite shows on T.V., try to keep my houseplants alive, travel and camp all over the U.S. (48 states down, 2 to go!), and spend time with my family. I’m married and have three kids, all of whom keep me very busy. Grace graduated from Western Michigan University with degrees in communications and marketing, and is currently working in Walt Disney World. She loves visiting art museums, drawing, painting, baking, running through the woods, and Disney pin trading. Robby attends Western Michigan University to major in accounting. He loves collecting sneakers and soccer jerseys, playing soccer and video games, and rooting on Arsenal, the Red Wings, Lions, Pistons, Tigers, and Detroit City Football Club. Lily also attends Western Michigan University in her first year, to potentially major in sports marketing. She loves all animals (especially dogs), the Pistons, theater, and Broadway shows. My husband is a high school math and special education teacher. We all have a lot of fun together!
As a parent, I know how I want my own kids to be treated in school. Believe it or not, I also still remember what it was like to be a student in middle school! My goal as your teacher is to help you succeed intellectually, socially, and emotionally. By treating you with respect and compassion, I hope you become confident enough in class, school, and your life to openly discuss your unique thoughts and opinions. Our classroom will be the place where you will have the opportunity to become a good reader, writer, thinker, and investigator. Much of your development in these areas will improve through practice and discussion. I will encourage and invite your parents to support you as you become a more responsible and independent learner.
