Brandon Middle School Visual Fine Arts Classes Supply List
2025-2026
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to a new school year! The information listed below is completely dependent on
your abilities or willingness to supply extra materials for your student. NONE of
anything listed is mandatory! The lists are purely suggestions for your student
depending on the particular art class your student is enrolled in. Mrs. Daniels will supply
all paper needed to complete each project and will also supply some additional project
materials.
My personal feeling is this:
In an art class environment sharing materials such as crayons, colored pencils, and
markers are fine until the cold and flu season arrives. This is your personal decision,
however, ALL “required” materials will be supplied. It is your choice as to whether your
student will have their own materials that they alone use.
Any personal items that are purchased do NOT need to be brought to class for
the first Day or Week! (JUST ONE REGULAR – not mechanical - PENCIL)!
Each student who does decide to have their own materials should store them in their
locker and they may NOT need to bring them to class every day. As we go through the
curriculum, I will advise them of what we will need as we proceed or they can ask for
clarification.
NO MATTER WHAT CLASS YOU ARE IN:
· Please do NOT bring all materials to class the first day!
· Just bring a pencil the first day!
ON ANY OTHER DAY:
· It will be each student’s responsibility to make sure they have picked up any personal
materials that have fallen each day at the end of class; so, your student does not
misplace their materials.
Each Visual Fine Arts Class has different needs!
Except: Remember, a pencil for each student in EVERY CLASS is required every
day!
Design:
This class will be more flexible on needs. Depending on what WE decide to focus on, will
determine what we will create! I have no “Fixed” project at this time! This class will
determine what we pursue. Basic materials are listed in the next list, and should cover
any project we pursue.
Art I, Art II, Drawing and Design:
Basic materials and NOT expensive brands =NOT required!
/ The brand and type are your monetary choice.
Everyone should have a NON-MECHANICAL PENCIL! Ticonderoga type pencil
“everyday”! This is a yellow, tan or black pencil with a pink eraser on it! I am
sometimes limited to supply these!
Eraser: The best eraser is a mapped eraser, a white eraser is best/good, pink is
messy, but works!
Crayons = small pack works just great!
Colored pencils (*this maybe a larger selection, and the brand as to how basic or
professional are your choice).
Crayola type markers, basic colors normal and ultra-thin.
Sharpies = Basic black / normal tip and ultra-thin = a must! (I will be
limited on how much I can supply these)
Plus, colored Sharpies small pack normal tip and ultra-thin are advised as
most used.
FYI: Watercolors will be provided and paint brushes… it’s up to you if you wish
your student to have their own, but this is messy! This one might be better for
school supplied. Unless you wish to use paint brush pens, I do not have those!
Glue will be supplied, but a few small CLEAR glue sticks are a great thing to have!
Ruler: I have rulers but unfortunately, they get damaged easily. Your choice!
Zip lock bags, *(just one large and a few smaller sizes for personal use are great.
Scissors, I have them! Some are not great, so it’s up to you, I would get a small
basic type depending on your students’ abilities.
Pastels are not required; I have oil and chalk IF we use them.
Additional Needs for DRAWING ONLY:
If you are in DRAWING Class there are additional needs above what is listed. Again, IF
you are not in a position to purchase these, I will have a set of pencils that the table will
share.
We will mainly use various B and H pencils. This is an example of a
full set of drawing pencils. This brand is from Blick, and costs $12.00. Smaller
sets with basic pencils are also available! There are also much more expensive
professional brands, these are your choice! High priced materials are NOT
mandatory!
This FULL set is not completely necessary, however if your student is a serious
artist, this is a great option. There are MANY brands! All ranging in price. Again,
I will supply a similar set like this, but the entire table will share them. This is up
to you.
All of the other items listed above, crayons, (mostly Colored Pencils), and
(Sharpies) will be needed for this class; again, I will have a class supply of these,
it is up to you if your student has their own.
Tortillon, also known as a blending stump, I call them smudgers!
Just one is good, or a few just in case (I will also possibly have them to share)
Eraser Or similar
Optional: (Colored Pencil Blending Pencils)
All students should have a REGULAR PENCIL EVERYDAY!
Art Mediums Class:
Mostly this class will use what is provided. There maybe a time later in the Semester
that we veer from ceramics. At that time, students maybe asked to bring in other
materials / usually odds and ends that are recyclables.
However, Pencils are always a must!
Just a regular pencil every day!!!
Other donations for the whole class; appreciated
But Not Required!!
Clorox “COMPOSTABLE” Cleaning Wipes SAFE around kids
WET ONES antibacterial hand wipes in canisters or packets
Large Ziploc Bags and sandwich bags, pencils always needed!
Q Tips (mostly for Drawing Class)
Clean (empty and WIDE mouth ONLY) yogurt cups OR 2.1 oz cereal cups.
Art Mediums Class ONLY = CHEAP White Vinegar (only white)!
Art Mediums Class ONLY = Round Toothpicks
Art Mediums Class ONLY = Plastic shopping bags WITHOUT HOLES! (like from
Meijer and Kroger) As many as you can collect and send! We use these to cover
our projects. They can be thrown by my door the first week of school even if I’m
not there; I will get them!
IF you have any questions about any of the materials on this list, you may email me and
I will do my best to get back to you.
Best,
Mrs. Daniels

BMS Visual Fine Arts Classroom Protocol
Be Prepared and please Participate!
Please do your best! It does NOT matter what your "art" abilities are! Every student can be successful in my classroom! You are hear to learn and I am here to be the best teacher I can be.
● You should bring your "CHARGED" Chrome Book to my class; this can be very useful for finding reference images. You MUST be aware that when we are using water or paint, you MUST make sure your device is out of harms way!
Please also know that to get graded in my class you are required to upload your artwork into Google Classroom, and you NEED your Chromebook to do this! I will show you how to do this / so NO worries!
● Dress appropriately for a school see the student handbook, and also remember that in this class we may use materials that can ruin clothes, so make sure to wear older clothes on days when we work in messy materials!
● Bring a pencil to class EVERYDAY! A number 2 Ticonderoga Pencil is recommended. NOT A MECHANICAL PENCIL!
Be Respectful ALWAYS! This includes all conversation with students and teachers.
● Wait your turn to speak
● Be thoughtful in what you say
Be kind to everyone, including the teacher
● When you are speaking talk loudly and confidently
● When you are not speaking pay attention to what other students are asking or commenting on
● Be the best you can be and when you have questions; PLEASE ASK!
Be Responsible
● Stay focused - put away your phone unless I give you permission to use it for "LESSON" help only! You MAY NOT text or use social media in my classroom, or your phone will be taken to the office, and it will be banned from further use in my classroom. No second chances here!
● Stay on topic - our time together is limited and valuable
● Check Google Classroom AND YOUR EMAIL regularly and complete assigned work . It is my current plan to use Google Classroom to post all assignments, and to grade work. You will need to upload your work into Google Classroom, using either your phone to take the picture OR your Chrome Book. IF I am absent, I will post your assignment in Google Classroom, This way no matter who your sub is, you will have access to videos or other pertinent information so you can process your work using our normal methods of working.
DUE DATES ARE IMPORTANT! If I grade work and your art work is NOT uploaded into Google Classroom by the due date * Important,, I only have a "due date" when the majority of the class is done with the assignment. EVEN IF you are not done by this date, it is IMPERITIVE that you upload your work to get a grade! I will NOT mark you down if you have been working!!!
Plagiarized work will receive a permanent zero grade; serious actions like this will also accompany consequences through the main office.
● Participate and engage in YOUR learning !!! Don't underestimate your abilities! Don't be afraid to make mistakes! Mistakes help us learn! Sometimes, it is the MISTAKES that make our artwork amazing!!!
The Art Room is a space to create and learn how to be an Artist. This is NOT a place to goof around, or to be disruptive. Intentionally destroying another student's work will be dealt with by the perpetrator being sent to the office; and consequences will result. It is NEVER okay to intentionally destruct another person's work, or to misuse the tools, materials or furniture in this classroom.
No one should use a cell phone during class. The school policy says you may check your phone in the hallway, and they are not to be seen in the classroom. IF students abuse this policy, I usually give one warning, and then take the phone to the office. The only time phones are allowed is if the student has asked me special permission due to uploading work, OR to gain access to a personal photo that is to be used for artwork. This is ONLY allowed with special permission.
Please be aware that you are still expected to follow all rules in the Brandon Middle School Student Handbook. .This includes attendance, maintaining academic integrity, behavior and conduct, etc.
Your teacher wants to help, if YOU need help / PLEASE let me know! If I say something that confuses you; PLEASE talk to me and ask for direction! I am here to help you!
This is going to be a GREAT school year!
