Students work with small groups to complete in-class investigations of the math concepts, sharing their thinking and strategies. Mrs. Goodloe then clarifies concepts and provides instruction.
Students will have independent practice almost every day. This practice will reinforce and continue exploration of the problems done in class. Students will have time in class to work, allowing time to attempt problems and ask clarifying questions.
Students are expected to keep their in-class partner work, independent practice, and corrections to all work in their math notebooks. Pages are not to be used for another subject or ripped out. Classwork and independent practice are graded for completion and accuracy. Students are encouraged to make corrections to their work as problems are reviewed together in class.
Final grades are made up of a combination of tests and quizzes (75% of the final grade) and in-class work and homework (25% of the final grade). Full credit is earned for the completion of homework. If a student completes the homework assignment with effort, full credit is earned. Some classwork is graded competition and effort such as homework, and some classwork is graded for accuracy. Students may make quiz corrections and retake unit assessments by filling out the proper form. Pick up a form from the classroom for all the details.
