Science Fair Guidelines
Purpose: Projects should focus on using the scientific method or engineering design process to investigate a question and gather evidence to answer it. While students may bring a model or visual representation to help explain their experiment, the emphasis should be on the investigation and the understanding gained, not just on creating the model itself.
General Project Guidelines:
Parents are encouraged to discuss the planning of the project with the student, but the primary responsibility must remain with the student.
Projects may be designed as working models, quiz boards, demonstrations, displays, and experiments, but must use the scientific method or engineering design process.
No live or preserved animals may be displayed.
No flammable or dangerous chemicals or drugs may be displayed
No electrical outlets may be used. Only battery operated displays will be acceptable.
Areas of Emphasis: use of the scientific method or engineering design process, students’ understanding of the project, students’ effort displayed, and ensuring the project is appropriate for their age and grade level.
