Science Fair Guidelines

Purpose: Projects should focus on using the scientific method or engineering design process to investigate a question and gather evidence to answer it. While students may bring a model or visual representation to help explain their experiment, the emphasis should be on the investigation and the understanding gained, not just on creating the model itself. 

General Project Guidelines:

• Parents are encouraged to discuss the planning of the project with the student, but the primary responsibility must remain with the student.

• Projects may be designed as working models, quiz boards, demonstrations, displays, and experiments, but must use the scientific method or engineering design process.

• No live or preserved animals may be displayed.

• No flammable or dangerous chemicals or drugs may be displayed

• No electrical outlets may be used. Only battery operated displays will be acceptable.

• Areas of Emphasis: use of the scientific method or engineering design process, students’ understanding of the project, students’ effort displayed, and ensuring the project is appropriate for their age and grade level.
