Absence Reporting Process: All Special Education staff must:
Report absences within 24 hours of the absence in Kronos.
Additional Reporting by Role
Teachers:
A teacher shall never leave his/her classroom until coverage has been secured. All absences from work, for any
reason, must be reported on the employee’s absent report in Kronos. Unplanned absences for sickness, death in the family,
etc. must be submitted immediately upon returning to work.
Teachers: Must also report absences in Frontline
This is required regardless of whether a substitute is needed.
You must include a note explaining the reason for the absence.
Paraprofessionals: must report their absence using the ParaProfessional Absence Reporting Form before 7:00 am
Itinerant staff must report their absence using the Itinerant Staff Time Off Notification Form by 8 a.m.
Unpaid Time is not to be used as a substitute for Annual Leave (ALD).
It is intended for emergency situations only when no other leave is available.
If you are absent without available leave balances, you must enter the absence as Unpaid Time.
Late Arrival: Occasionally unusual circumstances may necessitate late arrival to work. If you are going to be ten minutes late, call the school and let the building secretary know your approximate arrival time and reason for being late. Report to the office upon your arrival. If you are more than 15 minutes late, an absence report is to be completed andsubmitted to your supervisor. Habitual tardiness will result in disciplinary action.
Per the BIO Master Agreement, Annual Leave Days for more than personal illness shall not be taken the day prior to or following a scheduled holiday or vacation period unless on an emergency basis.
Leave days for reasons other than personal illness will not be granted on the first and last day of the school year unless on an emergency basis.
Annual leave of more than two consecutive days* must be submitted in writing to your immediate supervisor at least five (5) working days in advance. Approval for more than two consecutive annual leave days is subject to approval and is not guaranteed under the BIO contract.
An explanation or medical verification is also required for more than two consecutive annual leave days.
To make a special leave request in accordance with the BIO Master Agreement, please use the Special Absence Request Google Form.
*For the 2025-2027 school years only, to expire on June 30, 2027, Bargaining Unit Members are limited to the use of 2 consecutive ALD days with the exception of once a school year the Bargaining Unit Member can use three consecutive ALD days with at least a 5-day written notice to their supervisor. Use the form titled 3-Day ALD Notice.
Translation Supports and Resources
Please complete the Translation Request Form to request translation services from our BISD Translators at least a minimum 2 weeks prior to the needed date. Currently on staff, BISD contracts with persons who are able to translate Spanish or Arabic. If you are needing translation services for another language, please contact your direct supervisor. Requests will be processed in the order that they are received. You will receive an email notification from either Tami VanAuker or Robin Iveson from the BISD Special Education Department with information and/or directions regarding the translation service request. Completion of this request form does not guarantee the translation services.

Please complete the ISD Van Request Form above when requesting an ISD Van for trips in and out of county. You must have your driver's license on file with the Payroll Office before you are allowed to transport students.
Please complete the ISD Van Request Form at least two weeks before the date you need the van. While we will make every effort to fulfill your request, we cannot guarantee availability for the specific date and time you request. Keys must be picked up between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Waldron Center. If you return the van after hours, please park it in the garage or, if you do not have an opener, as close to the garage as possible.
