Accelerated Reader

Below you will find everything you will need to know about the Accelerated Reader programme at Brambletye.

Welcome to Brambletye’s new and improved Recommended Reading List (see the spreadsheet below).

This list has been updated to work alongside the Accelerated Reading (AR) system we use in our library and as such, has been separated into sections and then ZPD ranges.

The sections are LY (Lower Years = Years 3 and 4,) MY (Middle Years, Years 5 and 6,) MY+ (MY who are looking to be extended or UY who would like to read thrillers like The Hunger Games, Young Bond or Alex Rider books for example) and UY (Upper Years, Year 7 and 8.)

Within each of these sections, the recommendations are further organised into ZPD ranges (Zone Proximal Development). This is the range you get once when you complete the Star Reading Test, which you take once a term (twice in the autumn). This gives you a clear indication of where you should look for books that are just right for you, based on your age and comprehension.

Have a look at the tabs along the bottom to help you find some books you may like. This is not an exhaustive list and you may find many others that aren’t included here- that’s fine. There are 38,000 titles included in the AR system so we haven’t included them all!

Look back regularly as more titles will be added once a teacher thinks they’re worthy.
