Senior Prom

Prom Update, May 20, 2021:

BHS Families:

Recent revisions to national and state public health measures have been both encouraging and swift. Following the CDC’s revised guidance on masking and Governor Baker’s revised orders regarding both masking and gatherings, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has issued revised guidance regarding high school graduations. Drawing on all of this guidance, and in consultation with the Braintree Public Schools and the Braintree Board of Health, the BHS administration is pleased to offer the following revisions to our plans for the senior prom.

The guidance on proms issued by the DESE earlier this spring referred specifically to the governor’s limits on gatherings and guidance on face coverings. As of May 29th, both the limit on the size of outdoor gatherings and the requirement for students and staff to be masked while engaged in outdoor school activities will be rescinded. Accordingly, the BHS Senior Prom, scheduled to be held on the evening of June 2nd at Sunset Lake, will take place in a single session and participants will not be required to be masked during the event.

Students are reminded that they should maintain physical distance between themselves and non-household members whenever feasible, and that they should not attend the event if they are showing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19; since graduation is only three days after the prom, students who attend while sick risk causing their friends and classmates to miss out on graduation. As a reminder, BHS will continue to follow appropriate quarantining protocols as they pertain to student attendance at end-of-year events.

The recent relaxing of some public health restrictions is a sign that we are entering the final stages of what has been a very challenging time, but it also places more responsibility on all of us as individuals to monitor our own health and consider our potential effect on others. Everyone at BHS is looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the class of 2021, and we also hope that our entire school community remains healthy and well through the end of the school year.
