2021 Graduation

Class of 2021 Graduation

Graduation Update, May 20, 2021:

BHS Families:

Recent revisions to national and state public health measures have been both encouraging and swift. Following the CDC’s revised guidance on masking and Governor Baker’s revised orders regarding both masking and gatherings, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has issued revised guidance regarding high school graduations. Drawing on all of this guidance, and in consultation with the Braintree Public Schools and the Braintree Board of Health, the BHS administration is pleased to offer the following revisions to our plans for graduation.

Graduation

Based on revisions to the DESE’s guidance regarding masking and physical distancing, the following changes will apply to BHS’s outdoor graduation ceremony:

  • Students, staff, and guests will not be required to be masked during the ceremony

  • The previously announced limit of two tickets per graduate has been eliminated

  • Diploma cases will be handed directly to graduates as they cross the stage and their name is called

To clarify, here are some reminders and suggestions about how the ceremony will work:

  • Graduation is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5th. Inclement weather may cause a delay to later in the day or to our rain date of Sunday, June 6th

  • Graduates may invite as many guests as they would like to view the ceremony in person

  • Graduation will continue to be livestreamed through BCAM for those who prefer to watch remotely

  • Graduates will be seated 3’-0” apart on the football field during the ceremony

  • Guests are encouraged to distance from individuals not in their household whenever feasible

  • Attendees who are not vaccinated are encouraged to wear face coverings

  • The primary seating section for guests will be the home bleachers; limited accessible seating for those who require it will be available on the track

  • The visiting side bleachers, the playing field itself, and the area outside of the fence will not be available for guests to view the ceremony

  • Graduates should still arrive at the stadium between 9:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., report to the appropriate check-in table on the field, and then select a seat

BHS administrators, nurses, and staff, along with officers from the Braintree Police Department, will be available to assist guests throughout the day.

While everyone at BHS is excited about these changes, we also remind students and guests that if they are showing any signs or symptoms associated with COVID-19, they should not attend the ceremony.

Graduation Update, May 14, 2021:

BHS Seniors and Families:

Please find below the BHS graduation plan for the Class of 2021. As you know, this year's graduation is scheduled for Saturday, June 5th, at 10:00 a.m. (The BHS administration will communicate to all participants should inclement weather necessitate any delay in the start time of the ceremony or a postponement to June 6th, our rain date.)

This instruction sheet has been developed using guidance from the Braintree Public Schools, the Braintree Schools Health Office, and the Braintree Board of Health, and follows the specific guidelines for graduation ceremonies distributed earlier this spring by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. As we have all learned over the past year, the public health situation can change rapidly; should local or state agencies put forward in the coming weeks more restrictive or less restrictive guidelines, we may adjust our graduation plan accordingly.

Based on guidance from the state and the seating capacity of the BHS football stadium, all graduates will be allowed two guests at graduation. Guests will sit in two-person pods in the home bleachers and in additional chairs set up on the track. Following DESE guidance, all guests must follow health and safety protocols and need to pre-register in order to attend the ceremony; families can register by completing the form available at the following link:

All of us at BHS are excited about our upcoming graduation, and looking forward to honoring and celebrating the Class of 2021!
