The picture above are 11 members, six members who attended the I Am Leadership Conference, and 5 members who attended the We Connect Conference at FFA Camp Clements in Doyle, TN on November 19th, 2022. This conference was hosted by the current TN FFA State Officers and leadership facilitators.
Bradford FFA had 13 members represent them at Tennessee FFA Leadership Training Camp. Calley Graves represented the chapter as the Camp Council Vice President and Quiz Contest Winner. Three members received Bronze Leadership, six members received Silver Leadership, one received Gold Leadership, two received Most Athletic and one received Hot Shot of the week.
We had 19 FFA members in attendance at Tennessee FFA Convention. Members represented our chapter in leadership sessions, workshops, and contests.
Two of our FFA members were interviewed by the TN Department of Agriculture to give their viewpoint on TN FFA State Convention.
One of our students, Abby Beth Dunn, was able to represent Bradford FFA by being selected as the TN FFA State Nominating Committee member to select the 2023-2024 TN FFA State Officers.
Morgan Gehring, Veterinary Technician at Weakley County Animal Clinic, was able to be a guest speaker in explaining and assisting with venipuncture. Students were able to practice the techniques she covered with training models.
We had a representative from the Gibson County Utility District to explain the importance of utility safety, as well as the process of calling 811 prior to digging on your property.
We had a guest speaker, Mr. Jon Stafford, come speak to our Large Animal Science classes about Livestock Production and techniques that he has implemented for success.
FFA members visited Discovery Park of America and toured the barn and greenhouse.
Agriscience, Small Animal Science and Veterinary Science students were able to participate in a hands-on learning demonstration by Lana's Exotics.
Halfway Home, a local animal rescue, spoke to all courses on how to be a responsible pet owner and gave awareness on the issue of overpopulation.
This is a SAE project started by two students. They are raising show heifers, and have been caring for their daily needs, as well as learning how to use livestock equipment, and showing techniques.
Here are four Belted Galloway cattle that students use for their school-based enterprise SAE project. They have been assisting raising at the Bradford Agriculture Barn. Students help with daily care, health observations, and working the cattle.
This student has learned how to successfully restrain her bull that she purchased for her SAE. She is currently deworming her bull, "Hank" after evaluating fecal samples to best know what to treat him with. She is administering Valbazen, a type of dewormer.
Students learned how to calculate correct dosages and how to properly draw medicine from a vial in a syringe. Students were able to gain hands on training with this work sample.
Students learn more about livestock management, restraint, and health care with real world, hands-on scenarios. In this picture, one of our Large Animal Science classes corralled our show steer. We were going to administer a vaccination for him using BQA standards.
Students in Veterinary Science learn how to properly prep a surgery site. Students must complete a practicum expressing their knowledge.
Students were bathing and grooming their animals to get ready for the Gibson County Jr. Livestock show.
Many of our students have a SAE. Swine production allows students to utilize what they learned in the classroom to care for their livestock project.
Agriscience students dissected flowers to identify flower parts and their functions.
Students are able to learn proper safety and injection methods in the classroom, practice on a model, then utilize that skill on the beef cattle at the BHS Livestock Facility.
Students are encouraged to have a SAE. Maivy Dao is a student who has dedicated their time to expand their knowledge of poultry production for her SAE.
Facility maintenance and requirements is a component of Large Animal Science where students get hands-on experience by working at the school Livestock Facility.
