Incoming grade 10 students will read at least ONE fiction book of their own choosing from the appropriate grade level over the summer.
For help choosing a fiction book, see Choosing a Book
Over the summer, grade 10 students will complete a DIALECTICAL JOURNAL, due on their return to school. (Found at the link above as well as below; you will be prompted to make a copy.)
To complete the dialectical journal for your chosen fiction book, select brief passages that you find important, interesting, surprising, or with which you can connect and write or type it in the first column. Identify the page number where you found the passage in the second column. In the third column, respond to the passage with your own thinking. If you’d like, you may use the sentence starters to help prompt your thinking.
