Advisory - MSMS is starting an exciting new emotional/social support system for students, teachers and families. An advisor's goal is to provide individual support for each student and to therefore strengthen the community of the school. Advisory is built into the school day, whether hybrid or remote. The first initiative is a personal phone call home from the advisor to the student prior to the start of school. Lessons throughout the year include coping skills, gratitude, diversity, motivation, time management, and goal setting.
Program goals:
Build positive, meaningful relationship with caring adults at school
Help students develop positive relationships with their peers
Provide a safe space for students to strengthen their academic and social-emotional competencies, explore their interests more deeply, and nurture the development of new skills and talents
Aspen: Teachers will be uploading more scores for you to see progress. We will reset student Aspen accounts and show them how to use it. Remember it takes a lot of grades for averages to "settle."
FAQ’s
My child was absent yesterday. What should they do?
1) Check out our Google classroom to find out what the missing homework was, or call a study buddy.
2) If the missing homework was a worksheet, remind your child to visit the designated area in each room where extra papers are kept.
3) Remind your child that it is their responsibility to submit absent work once completed.
4) If your child has been out for 3 or more days with an illness, you can call the office or guidance and request a packet of work to be picked up in the office.
We are going on vacation, what should we do?
Notify your child’s HR teacher and the main office of the dates. Your child will have as many days out to make up the missed work. (Example: Absent 5 days, then when student RETURNS has 5 days to turn in missed work).
If you’d like, you can check Google Classroom while you are away for up to date information.
My child is really having a hard time with a part of your curriculum. What should they do? Help!
Stay positive. Encourage your child to ask questions in class and self advocate. Have your child see the specific teacher for the subject they need help. If needed, teachers can do extra help after school. We need advance notice. Late buses are offered 2 days a week.
