Welcome to Math on Team 6 White! I am excited to get to know your children and I am confident that this is going to be a great year! We have all had our challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic and the changes in our lives that have come along with it. There have been some great things that have come out of this crazy time...more family time, more time outdoors, more books read, more sleep, and more appreciation for the little things. I am excited to be back in school full time and look forward to an awesome year!
I have been a math teacher at MSMS for almost 20 years and I love teaching middle school math. As I tell my students every year, this is the math that they will use and need for the rest of their lives! My classroom is a serious learning environment but we find lots of time to play games and have fun at the same time!
Every student will receive a Big Ideas Math textbook that is to be kept AT HOME. This will be used for studying, homework assignments and vocabulary. They will also be given a math binder that they can write in and an ipad to take home with them. We will using this in school and at home so it should be brought back and forth to school. 6th graders need a lot of help with organization and study skills and I believe binders are the best way for students to stay organized with all their work. This should be brought to school with them everyday. I recommend students get their OWN pencil pouch for their own writing utensils to avoid spreading germs in addition to some supplies that they will have at school. Please let me know if you have any questions about supplies.
Lastly, if your son/daughter does not know his/her multiplication and division facts up through 12, PLEASE PRACTICE THESE AT HOME 5-10 minutes per day. You can use old fashioned flashcards or xtramath.com. Learning these facts and knowing them quickly will only make their "math life" easier in the future! Thank you for your help with this! :)
I look forward to a wonderful school year! :)
