These bloopers may seem funny, but they show us why it is so important to learn geography. Geography is more than memorizing places on a map, though that part is fun too. Being aware of where you are in the world, where you are going, and the economies and cultures of the people around you are what makes the world so interesting and unique!
This is Arkansas, not Arizona!
Hong Kong is NOT South America
Czechoslovakia disappeared in 1991!
New Zealand is not in the Middle East!
That's not South America, that's Africa
Queensland is NOT on the island, the island is Tasmania
That's Montana, not Pennsylvania
Not Idaho, that's Oklahoma
Washington Commanders are in Washington, DC, not Washington state!
That's not the US.
(She's an American citizen)
That's Africa
Look at the country outline, that's Italy!
Studying history is fascinating! You can learn so much about yourselves and what shaped who you are today by looking at the past. Historians work closely with other people to build stories about the past by looking at evidence that's been left behind. We can compare individuals and how they lived, we can compare different groups of people, and can look at how things like weather and climate changed people and how the people adapted.
A great example of this is the Spanish Influenza during the 1910's. With this new pandemic, we can look to the past to see how people 100 years ago coped. We can also learn about how the Spanish Flu spread and use that knowledge to prevent the samething happening now.
If you've ever heard the expression about learning from your mistakes, this is studying history!
If you've heard heard that history repeats itself, sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes we need to look closely to prevent it from repeating!
