Hello 8th Graders and Families!! Here you can find the curriculum updates about what we will be covering in class each week.
This week students will familiarize themselves with the classroom, procedures, and expectations. Students will get set up with Google Classroom, Delta math, and other sites and resources we will use throughout the year. If time permits the topics we will address this week through games and group work will be plotting points in quadrant 1, evaluating exponents, plotting integers on a number line, and adding integers with the same sign.
Some classes were a little shorter this week due to iReady testing. Review topics we worked on this week included multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by 10, reducing a fraction by 10, multiplying a fraction by 10 to get an equivalent fraction, and turning a fraction with a denominator of 10 into both a percent and a decimal. For integer review we looked at inverses, absolute value, comparing integers, and addition of integers. Some groups began working on one step equations.
This week students will be working on their xtra math accounts to help with fact fluency as well as delta math to review a variety of topics. We will also start working heavily with solving one step equations and reviewing integer addition. The level of difficulty of equations will completely depend on the student (include integers? decimals? fractions? how many operations? etc)
This week we will start reviewing varying fraction concepts EVERY week. I am choosing to focus on fractions because this is a topic which many students struggle with. This week we will look at representing a proper fraction with a picture, placing it on a number line, and writing an equivalent fraction for it. We will continue to work on one step equations involving all four operations. One step equation levels will vary by student (only whole numbers, integers, decimals, or fractions). We will also review integer addition with a quick game.
