the Course Selection Process

Each spring, school counselors work with students to request appropriate courses and electives for their schedules the following school year that align with their academic strengths and post-secondary plans. Parents/guardians are an integral part of this process. Through classroom presentations and in individual meetings, counselors help guide this process for students by reviewing their academic history and consulting the program of studies found below.

Your student's current teachers will make initial recommendations for core academic classes. If you do not agree with the placement recommendation for your student, please contact the current teacher for discussion. If you still disagree with the recommendation, please complete the waiver process by contacting the student's current teacher for that subject. 

For example, if your student was recommended for English 9 standard, but wants to take English 9 Honors, please contact your students 8th grade English teacher.

The teacher will email you the electronic (google) form that you will need to submit. The counselor will then make the change in your student's Schoolbrains account.
