Classroom Expectations

Students in my classroom are expected to adhere to the following rules that will be consistently enforced. The STUDENT is responsible for his or her own behavior in the classroom and CHOOSES his or her own conduct and consequences. By choosing to disregard any of the following expectations, the student chooses to have the teacher administer appropriate consequences. The teacher has the right to incorporate any reasonable consequences depending on the situation detrimental to the learning environment.

1. RESPECT others and the classroom environment.

  • Work positively with others.
  • Questions, comments, ideas, disagreements? Raise your hand and always discuss in a respectful tone!
  • Handle others' property with permission only.
  • Food and beverages (other than water in a clear container) are to be consumed before class.
  • Listen attentively to the teacher as well as other classmates during lectures or presentations.
  • Be open-minded of others’ views/beliefs and be respectful of differing opinions.
  • Use positive and respectful language towards each other, and encourage each other to be successful.
  • Remain silent during daily announcements.
  • Remain in your seat until teacher dismisses class (not when the bell rings). Do no start putting away materials until teacher’s instructions.

2. Assume RESPONSIBILITY for your learning.

  • Arrive prepared and on time.
  • Be seated and ready to work by the time the bell rings; start working on Starter/Bell Ringer.
  • Have all materials ready for class: binder, writing utensil, Chromebook and book(s). Please do not get out your Chromebook until the teacher has given instructions to do so.
  • Completed assignments must accompany you to class/turned in on time.
  • Check daily assignments and record any new assignments and/or due dates in calendar.
  • Absent? Find out missed assignments and make up your work in a timely manner.
  • Uncertain, confused, or stuck? ASK for help!
  • Follow all rules included in the BHS Student Handbook.
  • Do your own work; plagiarism will not be tolerated.

3. Put forth your best EFFORT

  • Engage respectfully in discussions and activities.
  • Take notes thoroughly when necessary.
  • Comments, questions, ideas? Please share!
  • Maintain focus on class activities.
  • Read and follow all directions carefully.
  • Include name, teacher, class name and period, and date on all work.
  • Make sure to complete your portion of group activities and cooperate/work together with classmates.
  • Always do your absolute best.

These are Expectations that are standard for every student in my classroom. Other than these, each class will make their own Vision Statement of important values and norms that will be agreed upon by all students and then signed by classmates to be displayed in class as a reminder of our contract to each other.
