There are a lot of different things to consider when deciding what instrument you would like to learn.
The easiest way to display them is by high, middle, and low sounds, so please read about and watch the videos of every instrument below to make sure you are considering them all!
Boys and girls can play ANY instrument, so be sure to pick your favorite, whatever it may be! :)

Part of the woodwind family, but made of silver.
The mouth forms like whispering the word "poooooooo."
Produces a sound by blowing across the headjoint hole without puffing cheeks.
Could possibly switch to OBOE in middle school.

Violin plays the highest and often fastest notes in the orchestra.
Viola plays slightly lower sounds than the violin and often creates beautiful harmony!
The smallest instruments in the string family.
Rests under your chin and held to the left.
Produces a sound by plucking the strings or using the bow.

Plays mainly middle notes, but can play very high and low too.
Part of the woodwind family and uses a reed.
The mouth forms like you are biting your bottom lip.
Produces a sound by sealing lips around the mouthpiece and blowing through it without puffing your cheeks.
Could possibly switch to SAXOPHONE in middle school.

The CORNET is just a smaller/lighter version of the TRUMPET, and is the perfect size for beginners! (most cornet players will switch over to an actual trumpet in middle school)

The lips form into a tight raspberry-like sound called a BUZZ.
Produces a sound by buzzing into the mouthpiece and blowing through without puffing your cheeks.

The FRENCH HORN is a beautiful instrument that is held on the lap when playing.
Can play low, middle, and high notes

Produces a sound by buzzing into the mouthpiece and blowing through without puffing your cheeks.
The best horn players have good ears and can sing right on pitch with songs!

The cello rests on the ground and fits between your knees.
Produces a sound by plucking the strings or using the bow.
Plays a lot of both melody and harmony in orchestra.

Plays mainly low notes, but can play middle notes too.
The trombone changes notes by moving the SLIDE in and out while the baritone changes notes by pressing the VALVES up and down.

Could possibly switch to TUBA in middle school.
The only instrument with a prerequisite: MUST CURRENTLY BE TAKING PIANO LESSONS AND HAVE FOR 2+ YEARS.
The two main instruments we learn are snare drum/drum pad and xylophone (which you will have one at home and use the one at school so you never have to bring it back and forth!)
You stand while playing, and will move around the section to play even more percussion instruments (tambourine, bass drum, triangle, cymbals, etc).
Produces sounds by striking instrument with sticks/mallets generated from wrist.
